They say everything happens for a reason, and we all have certain things we are meant to do while here on Earth. A firm believer in fate, I definitely think everything I've done in my life has led me to be becoming a professional DJ. I've always been fascinated with music and have been collecting records since I was about 10. Growing up, I made countless mixtapes off the radio and my records, and I was the one my friends could always count on to supply the boombox and the beats. And my Mom teaching me piano as a kid gave me a good ear for all types of music. Then, one day it happened......I went to my first "party." And the rest is history.
A DJ can deliver a form of music expression unlike any other. We can blend so many ideas, feelings and music styles into our sets. That window of opportunity is there for the taking and how far we go with it is what distinguishes us from one another. Over the years I have become increasingly interested in mashing up sounds and mixing up styles and I know that that has surely helped open minds to the hardcore sounds. I cannot express how gratifying it is to hear that I've helped a random person appreciate something that they previously did not enjoy or understand. Thoughout my years my mind has developed and I've learned to embrace all types of music, and as a DJ I want to encourage that in others. I believe that living richly encompasses an amenable view for all the world has to offer, including music. Plus I have always known that with the proper presentation anything can be well received, and with that notion I've set upon on a quest to manipulate sound to be pleasing to the ear and enriching to the soul.
Hardcore is a form of dance music like no other - it's raw, energetic, uplifting, invigorating, releasing, intensifying - and it has so many faces that there's no room for redundancy or boredom. It can contain elements of hip hop, heavy metal/rock, broken beat, trance, and so on. And my job as a DJ and producer is to share all those elements with the world and take people on a journey of sound like they've never heard before. Add a dash of turntable trickery to that, and the outcome is a very unique and exciting musical experience.
Drum and Bass has always been a style of music I could turn to when I'm in the mood to tickle the brain a bit. The complex patterns and intense basslines are a sure fix for a dull ear. It's also quite diverse and sometimes you just wanna throw your hands in the air and rock out to it, while other times you just wanna sit there and let it rattle your brain. Although there's mellow drum and bass out there, the tracks that envoke the most feeling in me are the harder ones. Plus it goes hand in hand with hardcore techno in that way. And at this point I can't have one without the other.
This year marks a decade of dedication to the electronic music scene. I hope to continue to reach new levels as a DJ and newly as a producer. And I thank all of you out there for your inspiration and support! Without the artists, fans, promoters and friends out there, we would be nothing.
See you on the dancefloor!
